Study Methodology

A structured approach to collect, consolidate, compare, and interpret financial, operational, and public data relating to the Algerian banking sector.

Algeria Banking Index studies rely on the methodical use of publicly available information, its harmonisation, and comparative analysis. The objective is to provide a consistent reading of performance, trends, and positioning across covered institutions.

What the methodology does NOT constitute

The published analyses do not constitute a credit rating, a prudential rating, a solvency certification, a financial audit, or an investment recommendation.

They rely on publicly available information and a comparative methodology proprietary to Algeria Banking Index studies.

Our 6-Step Analytical Approach

Algeria Banking Index studies rest on structured collection of publicly available information, followed by consolidation, consistency verification, comparison, and interpretation.

1

Scope & Data Collection

Identification and extraction of information published by banks and available institutional sources: financial statements, annual reports, and other relevant financial or operational disclosures.

2

Consolidation, Consistency & Restatements

Data consistency verification, reconciliation of aggregates, and standardized treatment of information across institutions and fiscal years.

When banks subsequently publish restated or reclassified historical data, studies adopt the latest available revised data to preserve comparative consistency.

3

Definition & Standardization of Indicators

Standardized definition of indicators used, distinguishing between stock data, flow data, and financial ratios.

Calculations cover growth, profitability, efficiency, market shares, and indicators enabling the comparison of institutional trajectories.

4

Sector Comparisons & Positioning

Analysis of sector aggregates, public vs. private bank comparisons, evolution of market shares, and relative positioning of institutions across studied indicators.

Methodological Principle: Comparisons are conducted on an identical methodological basis across all covered institutions.
5

Individual Analyses & Operational Dimensions

Each institution undergoes an individual review of its evolution, positioning, and core performance indicators.

Subject to data availability and comparability, analysis may also integrate operational metrics such as off-balance sheet commitments, workforce, branch network, and operational productivity.

6

Review, Analysis & Interpretation

Consolidated data is analyzed and interpreted by Mr. Rachid Sekak and Tadjeddine & Partners to identify meaningful shifts, industry trends, and factors explaining observed trajectories.

Factual findings, calculations, and interpretations are distinguished wherever possible in the study deliverables.

Historical Data and Revisions

Historical data may evolve over time. Some banks may perform reclassifications or restatements for previous financial years in subsequent publications.

When a revised figure is published by an institution, Algeria Banking Index may substitute this figure for the one used in an earlier edition to maintain consistent comparative series.

Numbers in a new edition may therefore occasionally differ from those in a previous edition without implying an error.

Specific Methodology for the Banking Services Barometer

The Banking Services Barometer constitutes a complementary and independent pillar alongside financial analysis. It is based on a survey of banking service users to measure satisfaction levels and perceptions of offered services.

Barometer results are presented separately from financial indicators. They do not enter into financial ratio calculations or accounting-based rankings.

Published results specify respondent sample size, data collection period, response distribution, and representativeness parameters.

Editorial Contributions

Certain editions may feature signed contributions from bank executives or industry experts. These contributions are clearly identified and separate from analysis produced by Algeria Banking Index.

They reflect the authors' opinions and do not enter into calculations, comparisons, or independent study conclusions.

Sources and Limitations

Analyses are prepared from public information available at the closing date of each edition. Data availability, detail level, and presentation format may vary across institutions.

When data is unavailable or cannot be homogenously compared, it may be excluded from specific indicators or flagged explicitly.
